AIM Past Project

The Hakatere / Ashburton River has been identified as an Important Bird Area by Bird Life International because it supports breeding colonies of the endangered black billed gull. The SH1 Ashburton Bridge required concrete repair works to be undertaken on the bridge structure in the vicinity of these birds. Works required specifific permits, project planning and inspections with Environment Canterbury (ECAN) to ensure the endangered birds in the area were not affected.

SH1 Ashburton Bridge Maintenance

Projects

Works included breaking affected concrete, cleaning with 4000psi water blasters, priming and then repairing with Sika mono top as well as repairing handrails from the footpath. Each repair was recorded and measured with before, during and after images on the repair sheets. Drills had dust extractors fitted and concrete chips were captured and removed ensuring the waterways remained unaffected.
