AIM Past Project

The 30+ year old building required an extensive upgrade to maintain an air tight seal that is essential to the hygienic requirements for the food processing plant. One such upgrade was a 200m2 5 tonne window, 30m above ground that had to completely removed and replaced with a double-glazed curtain wall. During the install, the strict hygienic controls throughout the install required to be upheld. While this project was underway, is was vital the internal cracks had to be sealed to prevent any other air leaks into the building. The position and length of these cracks, along with the time restriction of the 6-week shut meant a contractor needed to access and remediate these areas with minimal impact to other contractors in a timely and safe manner.

Geovert worked collaboratively with the client to approach window install companies to design and build airtight windows. Geovert completed the installation and provided management resources to outlay and control all health and safety requirements and quality controls under the NZ3916 contract. Some of the planning requirements included crane lifts, permit receiving, work package plans and quality control plans alongside working with other contractors such as painters and scaffolder's to maximize productivity for the client.

Because of the time restriction and the client’s reluctance to utilize scaffold on the inside, a second crew of rope access technicians undertook the concrete repair, sealing and painting either using the inside structures or aid climb access to all areas that needed remediating. The reduced spatial impact, cleanliness and speed of using rope access provided to carry out the repairs required less logistics and more productive workflow for all contractors involved.
