Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression. Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, including some of the first ever rope access high rock scalers, but it cost over one hundred lives. The Hoover Dam remains one of the finest examples of American engineering and is included on many lists of modern marvels with over 1,000,000 tourists each year. Due to the Geovert's safety culture and exemplary health and safety track record undertaking high risk acitivies, Geovert was selected by the Bureau of Reclamation to undertake a 5 year contract to protect the asset and public from the potential risk of geohazards.
Project Overview
Physical works at the dam commenced early 2019 with rock scaling and rock bolting at nights to ensure no disruption to tourists of the operation of the dam. The works scope is varied covering most aspects of geohazard mitigation also including geotechnical inspections, rockfall mesh drapes, actively stabilised mesh and rockfall barriers. While we're undertaking the works high above the asset, detailed planning is required to temporarily protect the dams structures from rockfall, the scaling or included from the construction activities.
